“Behold the arrival of a great new talent” – All About Jazz “Indie-voiced Kristina Koller mixes jazz and bohemia…Gotta see her!” - JazzWeekly

With the release of her debut album 'Perception', Kristina Koller has established herself as one of the most exciting young voices in jazz. As a composer, Kristina melds diverse genres of music into her songs – mixing jazz with R&B, funk and rock elements. While embracing standards and straight ahead jazz, Kristina arranges tunes in unique ways, knowing that adding to the legacy of jazz is much more important than recreating the performances of others. The Westchester native culled her musical chops in the NYC jazz scene, performing at venerable jazz haunts such as Smalls, Smoke, Minton’s, Mezzrow as well as The Apollo Theater. Koller is a very original contemporary jazz vocalist, one that anyone interested in jazz, or for that matter progressive music, needs to hear.

Which musician did Aretha Franklin definitely NOT want missing from the line-up when she recorded her most inspired albums at the beginning of the seventies. Who provided the back-beat for Steely Dan's "Aja", and for whom have Isaac Hayes, Donny Hathaway, B.B. King, "Sweet" Lou Donaldson, Joe Cocker and Hank Crawford reserved that stool behind the drum kit? The list is incomplete; it must be, because no other drummer in the last three decades has seen the interior of a recording studio as often as Bernard "Pretty" Purdie. A native of Elkton, Maryland - Purdie has laid down the beat on over 3000+ albums to date.

The legendary drummer's style is described as the "funkiest soul beat" in the business. Anchoring sessions with the Rolling Stones, James Brown and Tom Jones with equal ease. "DRIVE" and "GROOVE" are definitely not missing from his vocabulary.

This achievement comes as the last in a row of distinguished accomplishments. 2012 will see a new release from the quartet with works by Bartok and Beethoven. The high technical and musical quality, the joy of playing, the powerful impact the quartet makes on stage and the fresh approach to familiar repertoire has become a trademark for the Danish String Quartet.
