Jazz
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
"The twin Moutin Brothers, Francois and Louis, have made their marks over the years as co-leaders of the Moutin Reunion Quartet, and as much-in-demand sideman due to the mastery of their respective instruments, bass and drums.

The Moutins now reveal their new project, the Moutin Factory Quintet. One element remains unchanged, and that is the personality of the Moutins' music-- unfettered stylistically, provocatively arranged, and laden with zestful improvisations and interaction.

[CD "Lucky People"] "Through six originals from Paris-based Louis and three from New York resident Francois, plus an Ornette Coleman medley, this new ensemble manages to sound ageless and sublimely vital." - Scott Albin / Jazz Times

Featuring Francois Moutin/Upright Bass, Jean Michel Pilc/Piano, Manu Codjia/Guitar, Christophe Monniot/Sax and Louis Moutin/Drums

Shayna SteeleThe FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
A completely unexpected call in 2005 would drop Shayna Steele squarely in the middle of genre she had absolutely no experience with: Electronica. Hearing that Moby "needed a screamer" for a track on his album "Hotel", resulted in the disc's second single "Raining Again". Two years later, she was laying down vocals for "Extreme Ways (2007)" - Moby's theme song to The Bourne Ultimatum - and "Disco Lies", the first single off Moby's 2008 release "Last Night".

Steele began writing music with partner David Cook in 2002, collaborating on Steele's eponymous debut EP in 2004. The album's breakout soul-funk single "High Yella" achieved the attention of, and performances with, Ledisi, George Clinton and the Sugar Hill Gang, Bjorkestra and Snarky Puppy (2014 Nice Jazz Festival).

It was the release of Shayna's first full-length album "I'll Be Anything", co-written with Cook that put Shayna on the map as a legitimate solo artist.

Orlando formed his first band, Eddie Palmieri and his Orchestra and, since then, has played with several different bands and has performed in the famous Palladium Ballroom. In 1997, Latin music historiographer Max Salazar presented Orlando a plaque in recognition of nearly five decades of uninterrupted contribution to Latin music. In January 2003, Orlando was invited by Latin Jazz station, WPFW, by the Arlington County (Virginia) Cultural Arts Division, and by the Latin American Folk Institute to do a live concert in Washington at The Spectrum Theater and in 2006, Congressman Jose E. Serrano honored Orlando as “The Last Mambo King,” for his continuing to provide Latin American music and his willingness to devote time to helping the less fortunate.

Tal National

The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
By the time Tal National reached international acclaim with 2013’s ‘Kaani’, the band’s first release outside of Niger, they had spent more than a decade crisscrossing their native country, usually on dirt pathways through the Sahara, playing epic five-hour sets, seven days a week, selling their CDs on street corners and roundabouts. In the process, they became Niger’s most popular band, with songs constantly blasted on national TV and cell phones everywhere. Following FatCat’s release of ‘Kaani’, Western audiences and critics quickly embraced the band’s singular and finely-honed sound. NPR were hit by “the band’s tightness and fiery energy”; The Guardian praised “their full-tilt approach, and hypnotic intensity”; whilst Songlines wrote of ““a rich, hybrid sound that draws on familiar West African elements to create something rewardingly fresh and different”. FatCat is releasing the dazzling follow-up, ‘Zoy Zoy’.

Audiences of all ages will revel in the circus-like atmosphere created by HVSF’s young artists in our 90-minute version of Shakespeare’s enchanting tale of a magical island full of monsters and fairies. When a storm washes his royal enemies ashore, Prospero has a chance to take his revenge – or will he conjure a happy ending instead?

Now a ship is caught in a violent storm, and Prospero tells Miranda that he conjured the storm because his mortal enemies are all on that ship. Castaways begin to turn up. First comes Alonso’s son Ferdinand, who immediately falls in love with Miranda. Prospero tests their love by enslaving Ferdinand. As the other castaways appear on the island, Prospero must decide if he will take revenge on his enemies, or conjure a happy ending instead.

The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
The Littlest Birds are David Huebner on cello and Sharon Martinson on banjo, offering a gentle, harmony-fueled brand of twang that evokes the dusty backroads and wide open spaces of the American West while remaining deeply rooted on a backporch somewhere in Appalachia. Since 2010 they have traveled across 35 U.S. States, playing 100s of shows, including visits to Canada and England. They have performed at such renown festivals as the Vancouver Folk Music Festival and the Oregon Country Fair as well as numerous regional festivals and venues. With voice, cello, and banjo, old traditionals are given a fresh turn, and their original songs display an enthusiasm and inspiration that flows off the stage and into the hearts of anyone that is listening.

“Think instrumental virtuosity balanced by a breezy, backwoods soul, music that is both intellectually stimulating and emotionally soothing.” - Seven Days Weekly, Burlington, VT

Bluegrass. Swing. Hot jazz. Pre-war blues. Southern soul. New Orleans funk. The Dustbowl Revival is an American roots orchestra with eight full-time members — and they play it all, mashing the sounds of traditional American music into a genre-hopping, time-bending dance party that coaxes new fire out of familiar coal. It’s a celebration of the sounds that have kept America moving for more than a century, performed with all the flair of a medicine show and rooted in the sweat and swagger of a juke joint song swap.

Featuring:: Z. Lupetin/Guitars/Vocals, Liz Beebe/Vocals/Washboard, Daniel Mark/Mandolin, Connor Vance/Fiddle, Matt Rubin/Trumpet, Ulf Bjorlin/Trombone, James Klopfleisch/Bass and Josh Heffernan/Drums
