The Summer Hoot
with Saints of Swing, featuring Miss Rene Bailey
Swing/Jump, Big Band, Gospel, and Motown/R&B
Ashokan Center
477 Beaverkill Rd
Olivebridge, NY   See Map
Back in February 2013, we joined with our family, friends & the Ashokan Center & launched an indoor festival called Winter Hoot with local music, local food, & art & nature activities for all ages. It was great! Over 400 attended & made it truly spectacular.

Besides raising money to help local kids attend Ashokan's important outdoor education programs, this late-winter gathering raised a lot of people's spirits, young and old!

The 1st Summer Hoot was magical: 28 bands, a volunteer-constructed outdoor stage, perfect weather, & a magical Sunday morning show by Pete Seeger which will live forever in our memories.

The Hoot fills us with gratitude for the immense beauty, talent & generosity that overflows this valley, these mountains, this region & our greater community on this globe.

2nd Annual Summer Hoot: Aug 22-24, 2014.

Love, Mike+Ruthy

Throughout Williams’ years with The Yankees, his passion for music never waned. The record featured fusions of jazz, rock and the tropical rhythms of Williams’ heritage and was an instant chart success- reaching #3 on Billboard’s “Contemporary Jazz Chart.” Bernie Williams raised his musical game even further with the release of his second album Moving Forward. Featuring guest appearances by Bruce Springsteen, Jon Secada, Dave Koz, and an All-Star cast of renowned studio musicians, Moving Forward debuted as Billboard’s #2 Contemporary Jazz album in the country, and spawned two consecutive Billboard #1 singles, Go For It, and Ritmo de Otono. The mighty Hard Soul delivered their debut LP 'Heart of Plaster', featuring 10 brand-new guitar-driven tracks inspired by life on the road, heartbreak and sacrifice, and the search for a place to call home, all set to a mighty back-beat with heartfelt lyrics soaring over a classic-rock inspired soundscape.

Ladies Day is dedicated to discovering and performing the compositions of classic and contemporary jazz women. After an Aha! Moment, when vocalist MJ Territo realized that so many of the little-known tunes she loved to sing were written by women, she began to think about putting a set of the tunes together and playing them with other women musicians. When she met pianist Linda Presgrave, another collector and performer of compositions by women, she put the project in motion. Since 2011 the ensemble has performed in venues in and around New York City. A sampling of their repertoire includes music by jazz masters Mary Lou Williams, Abbey Lincoln, Marian McPartland, and Peggy Lee; works by contemporary songwriters such as Meredith D'Ambrosio and Nellie McKay; and original compositions and collaborations by the band's members.

This is a band you will NOT want to miss. Rob Roy is a collaboration between Rob "Drum Guru" Wallis & Mishti (aka Mishti Roy) and includes Anthony Candullo on bass and Alex Nolan on guitar.

Rob and Mishti are each bandleaders in their own right, and tonight they're coming together to bring us a groove and funk that's like no other. Rob performs with many of the Hudson Valley's finest musicians, and is head of Drummers Collective School of Music in New York City. Mishti's music has been described as "coasting between a bottom-heavy Zeppelin Rock, Blues-infused grooves, Thelonius Monk-inspired guitar work, and a Nina Simone-style wail-to-whisper." Rounding out the band is Candullo and Nolan... an absolute killer rhythm section!

The band will be performing Blues-infused Rock from Michael Jackson to Pearl Jam and everything in between.

Founded in 1995, the Artists' Soapbox Derby has the dual purpose of encouraging community participation in the arts and generating commercial activity. It provides both imaginative stimulus and exposure for the arts community and offers the public a casual, but spirited introduction to art outside the staid venues of gallery and museum. Derby participants design a non-motorized kinetic sculpture capable of "rolling" down lower Broadway in Kingston, NY's Rondout Historic District. Community artists conduct Art Car design workshops for local youth, an annual poster features a regional artist, and thousands of dollars in prizes are given away. Celebrating 19 years in 2014, t he Artist Soap Box Derby has garnered national and region-wide attention in the New York Times, Business Week, other major publications, broadcast media and online, drawing more than 8,000 visitors to Kingston for a Derby weekend.

John Tracy’s music is for real people living real life. It is born of a desire to be transparent and share his experiences in life through his lyrics. Spending hours since the age of sixteen perfecting his skill on the acoustic guitar, studying songwriting from some of the industry’s best and pouring his expertise as a lyricist into each word, he has crafted songs that have a resounding impact.

Says Jeff Curtis, Executive Director of The Orange Downtown Alliance: “John’s genius of delivering lyrical melodies of all things that we experience as humans may only be surpassed by his mastery of the guitar. He will tell you that he loves writing songs but his music tells you that he loves the human connection.”
