In performing Chopin’s quartet of ballades, Rabinovich tackles not only a form that Chopin invented but some of the most challenging pieces in the piano repertoire. Along with a composition of his own, Rabinovich rounds out the program with a duo of Haydn sonatas championing a composer he particularly adores – “His wit, emotional depth and musical invention have been a source of inspiration for me.”

The D-Major Project
Jazz
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
The DMajor Project features a brilliant collaboration of musicians who approach the repertoire they perform from a wide eclectic mix of influences. Although often referred to as "an improvisational jazz group", that only describes one aspect of what their music really is. More accurately, The DMajor Project performs everything from folk to jazz to classic soul, Latin, neo-funk, world beat, roots and pop music, but always in their own unorthodox way! They take popular songs from every era, in all genres and styles, and mostly re-write, re- arrange, re-harmonize and rhythmically transform them into their own fun, quirky, original and truly unique renditions.

The band is centered around the mesmerizing vocal stylings of DEBBIE MAJOR ("DMajor") accompanied by the extraordinary talents of KEN McGLOIN (guitar & ukulele), AKIE BERMISS (pian, keyboards & vocals), and JON BATES (drums & percussion).

$10 admission.

The Heights at Brother Vics

South Salem, NY   See Map
Karma Darwin was formed early 2013 in Brewster, NY. The band consists of Alex Peterson on Guitar and Vocals, Drew Stubbs-Stroud on Guitar and Vocals, John Newton on Bass and Back-up vocals, and Ryan Lowry on Drums. The self-titled album, “KARMA DARWIN”, consists of 18 songs written by Peterson, Stubbs-Stroud, and Newton and is absolutely brought to life by the voices of Peterson and Stubbs-Stroud. The vocal harmonies, reminiscent of 50’s, 60’s style rock-n-roll with a breath of new life, illustrate a journey of love through the end of the world that is driven by the rhythms from Newton and Lowry. The two guitarists display mastery of their instruments on the record, and in live performances, through the epic solos that reflect and enhance the energy of the story they weave. The chemistry from the band as a unit is obvious every time they play and the shows only get better and better

Fresh from its Latin American tour, the Grammy-nominated New Swing Sextet will perform a concert benefiting La Voz magazine, Bard College’s Spanish language publication covering Hispanic culture and news in the Hudson Valley.

Imagine a hot salsa band from the 1960s reuniting after a 30-year hiatus to discover an even greater, more global, fan base. “Rip Van Winkle couldn’t have had it better,” recalls co-bandleader George Rodriguez of the New Swing Sextet’s (NSS) recaptured infectious popularity. “No one is more surprised than we are,” says the vocalist and original NSS member, “to be ‘Back on the Streets’.” A product of New York City and the excitement and turbulence of the sixties, the band has been a popular and innovative exponent of Latin jazz, salsa and pop music for over five decades. Ticket includes a complimentary glass of wine, NSS concert and 30 minute salsa lesson with Dojo Dance Company. Proceeds from this ¡Salsa! will benefit La Voz magazine.
