KIND of NEW pushes its way into your ears, your feet, for a truly engaging listen. Along with “Sanctuary,” two additional tracks were recorded live at The Shape Shifter Lab in Brooklyn: “Ferrari,” written by Jason about driving with Miles Davis down the Pacific Coast Highway, and which features an inspired electric piano performance; and “Street Vibe.” Jason adds, “Ingrid and I also wanted to present ourselves in a live, spontaneous situation, to give the audience an example of what this band is about. Renowned producer, keyboardist and conceptualist Jason Miles’ first-hand intimate experience working with Miles Davis informs this new collaboration, and indeed its title is a wink at the master from whom he learned so much. Ingrid Jensen, grew up in British Columbia, with the brave sounds of Miles Davis's Bitches Brew coursing through her soul. She recalls the fun she had with her rock band jamming over the tracks.

Monday 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm | The Jazz Gallery Mentoring Series with Adam Rogers Group, David Virelles, Scott Colley, Jimmy McBride | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
The Jazz Gallery serves as an international cultural center, fostering artistic growth, presenting both major and established figures in jazz alongside a younger generation of artists. Since 2002, The Gallery has also been actively engaged in commissioning new work by emerging composers, many of whom have gone on to be recognized with MacArthur Foundation "genius" grants (4), Doris Duke Performing Artist Awards, Grammy Awards and more. Twelve Thelonious Monk Competition winners got their start on our stage.
http://www.jazzgallery.org/ Mentorship has always been a key theme in jazz history. For decades, elder musicians groomed promising young jazz musicians - taking them on the road, into the recording studio and into one-on-one study. Most of today's great jazz musicians were raised through these informal channels and gained invaluable experience working with their heroes. Future generations of great quality jazz depends upon continuing this tradition.
