Chris Brown
Singer-Songwriter
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
With his distinct bass tone, Christopher Brown has pleased audiences for more than two decades with his repertoire of musical stories. Chris' special view of the world is portrayed honestly and humorously through his innovative, story-telling lyric, enlivened by a unique blend of folk, country and rock & roll. A reviewer recently wrote, "his sound might best be described as James Taylor meets Johnny Cash."

Chris calls his new album "Characterist". That's because he is not only a singer/songwriter, but an artist/illustrator who can capture a subject's essence through caricature. With a few strokes, he reveals hints of a character's nature or temperament, their mystery or charm. He does the same thing with lyric and melody, outlining and shading characters and moments, even yearnings and states of mind. His deep rumble of a voice can be as direct as an approaching train, yet warm and forgiving.

Chris will be joined by master guitarist and composer Peter Calo.

Peekskill, NY   See Map
If you grew up in the '60's & '70's -- or even if you didn't -- you are probably a fan of Simon & Garfunkel. We most certainly are.

Jeb and Jock Guthrie, aka The Guthrie Brothers, have been playing and singing together since they were young kids. Performing in a number of garage bands and bar bands, they eventually came to cherish their "natural sibling vocal blend."

"We knew the first time we played a Simon and Garfunkel song that we had a natural and almost spiritual connection to it. Our voices blended effortlessly into that S&G signature sound, and the overwhelming audience reaction to our performance confirmed our feelings. Since that first performance, we have worked to perfect our tribute to these two amazing artists."

The Guthrie Brothers' authentic replication of the S&G songs we all know and love will blow you away. Don't miss this special performance!

The Wiyos will appear at Unison Arts Center on Saturday, April 18th for two shows: a kid friendly matinee at 2pm and a more adult themed show at 8pm.

The Wiyos were one of the original 'old timey' bands to emerge on the national scene in the first wave of acoustic bands riding the renewed popularity of early swing, jazz, rural folk, old time Blues and Appalachian music. In 2009 they opened for Bob Dylan on his summer tour. They have been featured in BBC television documentaries about folk music and have appeared at Carnegie Hall.

Chronogram magazine calls The Wiyos, "A surreal American opus--Big Pink meets Pink Floyd."

Their original songs draw on various American roots music traditions, which they morph into their own acoustic/electric style. The musical contribution of each member results in a unique and truly authentic sound.

Their material has been described as “classic songs, that you’ve never heard before”, and their live shows have a reputation for getting all ages dancing. The band features Bill "Thunderbear" Barrett on guitar, David Andersen on electric and acoustic bass, Rob Stein on pedal steel guitar, and Eric Parker on drums. Their first album is soon to be released and features Garth Hudson on accordion.
