Paddy Mills is an award winning folk singer from the coast of Maine. The son of a part time DJ at the local AM country radio station, Paddy grew up in the small fishing village of Owl’s Head. He cut his teeth playing Irish music at pubs throughout New England. These are the elements that inform his writing; from the direct and simple approach of classic country music, the emphasis on melody and storytelling found in traditional Irish music, to the unpretentious attitude and dry wit that stem from a hard scrabble life of scratching out a living where the ocean meets the land. Mainefolkmusic.com described his last release as being “full of finely crafted and masterfully performed songs”. In his latest release Race to the Bottom Mills demonstrates once again that he can spin a yarn, catch a song, turn a phrase and make a point with a wink and a wry smile.

Wednesday 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm | David Ullmann's "Corduroy", Brian Drye, Ben Holmes, Mike McGinnis, Jamie Reynolds, Loren Stillman, Gary Wang, Deric Dickens | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
Ullmann has performed extensively in and around New York City, from hallowed venues to current hotspots, and at numerous festivals. Ullmann’s third album, the new Corduroy (Little Sky Records), resonates with the psychogeography of his youth. He explains the title, Corduroy: “Like a smell or a sound, the feel of something can stir up memories,” he says. “Corduroy was big in the 70s, and just touching it, the texture can take me back.” Explaining the allure of that 70s feeling, Ullmann adds: “The themes from the TV shows evoked more emotions in me than the shows themselves. I just loved the sound of ‘Angela’ from Taxi and ‘Suicide Is Painless’ from M.A.S.H. I also thought it was cool that the studio musicians who played these TV themes included jazz players – Bob James wrote the Taxi song and recorded it with guys like Eric Gale, Randy Brecker and Ron Carter. And Paul Desmond and Bill Evans covered the M.A.S.H. song.” http://vimeo.com/97436038

Thursday 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm | Opening Act! with Seth Davis Band Singer-Songwriter | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
Singer/songwriter Seth Davis' "story-songs" are laced with wounds, reconciliation, addiction and irony. Seth has crafted three critically acclaimed records. "There's a flavor in the voice. And it's the first thing you think of when Seth Davis begins to sing. As Davis's third and latest disc, MORNING SONGS, unfurls, you being to think even more of Jules Shear. How could that be a bad thing? It's not just the voice. It's the casual precision, the arc of melody, the weight of lyric. There is a shared economy, and it's a delightful place to start." - Chronogram "Seth Davis establishes himself as a poet of notable talent." - Creations Magazine "Rarely does a musician arrive on the scene with the songwriting craftsmanship displayed by Seth Davis." - Aural Fix
