"CREOLE SOUL"
with Etienne Charles
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
One of the most compelling and exciting young jazz artists ushering the genre into groundbreaking new territory is trumpeter/bandleader Etienne Charles, who, still in his 20s, has already recorded three impressive and well-received albums for his own Culture Shock Music imprint.

His new album, "CREOLE SOUL", is a captivating journey of new jazz expression. It buoyantly taps into a myriad of styles rooted in his Afro-Caribbean background and plumbs the musical depths of the islands, from calypso to Haitian voodoo music. Also in the jazz amalgam mix are rock steady, reggae, belair, kongo and rock as well as the influence of Motown and R&B music.

"Jazz is Creole music," says Charles who was born in Trinidad, relocated first to Florida and then New York to further his jazz studies (graduating, respectively, from Florida State's and Juilliard's jazz programs) and today teaches jazz trumpet at Michigan State University.

Orlando formed his first band, Eddie Palmieri and his Orchestra and, since then, has played with several different bands and has performed in the famous Palladium Ballroom. In 1997, Latin music historiographer Max Salazar presented Orlando a plaque in recognition of nearly five decades of uninterrupted contribution to Latin music. In January 2003, Orlando was invited by Latin Jazz station, WPFW, by the Arlington County (Virginia) Cultural Arts Division, and by the Latin American Folk Institute to do a live concert in Washington at The Spectrum Theater and in 2006, Congressman Jose E. Serrano honored Orlando as “The Last Mambo King,” for his continuing to provide Latin American music and his willingness to devote time to helping the less fortunate.

The rhythms of the Caribbean!
with 3D Ritmo de Vida
Latin, World
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Band leader Michael Tate, a two-time Latin Grammy Nominee, says the three D's in the band's name stand for Dynamic, Diverse, and Danceable, and Ritmo de Vida means "Rhythm of Life". Guess that about sums it up! In the "sounds like" section of ReverbNation it says, "Sounds like: Marc Anthony... Carlos Santana, Gloria Estefan".

Curiously enough, Michael Tate and Chris Amelar, founding members of 3D Ritmo de Vida, are not Latinos, and this fact makes the end result much more intriguing. The melodies created by Michael and Chris are fluent, dynamic and contain a distinctive and progressive personality, influenced by Salsa, Reggae, Soca, R&B, Gospel and other Caribbean rhythms.

The band includes Michael (drums), Lenny Underwood (keys) and Chris Amelar (guitar) plus others.

Join us for this exciting night of Salsa & more!

1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Following his departure from military service in 1969, Tisziji pursued his interests in Canada, generating his own musical ideas as well as taking a leading role in the development of Toronto’s underground music scene.

He met and inspired the now world-famous keyboard player, Paul Shaffer, who became Tisziji’s primary accompanist from 1970 to 1972, and recalls: “Tisziji’s music is of a unique, other-worldly nature… although I didn’t understand it, I was galvanized. He began to instruct me in how to accompany and play this type of music. Thus began a musical and spiritual friendship which continues to this day." "...nobody plays guitar the way Tisziji Munoz does. He is very spiritual, and as a guitar player he swings wild.”

Paul Shaffer (Piano), has been David Letterman's musical director, band leader and sidekick. Shaffer has released two solo albums, Grammy-nominated 'Coast to Coast', and 'The World's Most Dangerous Party', produced by rock icon Todd Rundgren.

The words that exude from Young’s cavernous cranium, bleed with serene honesty, and implied truth. Asking the right questions, and offering the best answers he knows how to deliver with no eye on any sort of prize. Instead, he’s sharing stories that relate to humanity. A humanity that will only benefit from the words he spins. With a voice and delivery that loosely resembles Ryan Adams, Joe Purdy, Ray LaMontagne, and Sean Hayes, Young has carved a niche for himself in the ears and hearts of listeners everywhere. From standard pop-folk, to soul searching ballads, and a smattering of inquisitive rambling Americana, Young plays music that takes you on a journey. The destination of which is of no real importance, so long as you’ve got your ears and mind open, and are ready to follow him on down the road to aesthetic

Utter the phrase "young blues guitarist" within earshot of anyone with even a cursory knowledge of the modern musical vanguard and the first name they are most likely to respond with will be Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Still barely in his 30s, the Louisiana born axeman and songsmith has been selling millions of albums, throwing singles into the Top 10, shining a light on the rich blues of the past and forging ahead with his own modern twist on a classic sound he has embodied since his teens. In a mere 20-year recording career five-time GRAMMY® nominated Shepherd has established himself as an immensely popular recording artist, a consistently in-demand live act and an influential force in a worldwide resurgence of interest in the blues.

Peekskill, NY   See Map
On Aug 30, we were turning people away at the door, but they couldn't help but stand outside and listen in as Qu Boii took 12 Grapes, and Peekskill, by storm!

With an original style and authentic talent - coupled with a winning smile and tenacious personality - Jaquon "Qu Boii" Welch takes his audience back to a time when music was as much about the message as the delivery. His tenor voice smoothly transitions from old-time Gospel to modern Urban Soul and R&B, drawing inspiration from legendary artists like Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, John Legend and others.

Jaquon began singing and performing at the age of two, before he could even make complete sentences! A Peekskill native, he's been performing up the east coast, in local theatre groups and his Baptist Church.

This amazing band, with two keyboards, three back-up singers and incredible percussionist, will have you dancing from the first note!

Failing Forward, The Bluesical is a theatrical production about second chances. Light on dialogue, heavy on music. New York’s A-list musicians masterfully combine rock, soul, blues, and Broadway in to a sound that’s both vintage and contemporary.

Featuring an ALLSTAR Line-Up!: Tabitha Fair (Sting, Amy Grant), Clifford Carter (James Taylor, Idina Menzel), Joel Rosenblatt (Spyro Gyra, Larry Carlton), Dave Anderson (Blood, Sweat & Tears, Art Garfunkel), Larry Saltzman (Carole King, Bette Midler), Bill Harris (Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow), Don Harris (Nile Rodgers, Tower of Power).

Ken Kirsh, the show’s composer and host, describes it this way: “If Adele and John Mayer had a baby, got divorced, and Louis CK raised it in the theatre district…it’s kinda like that.”

This special Falcon event promises melodies and grooves that will remind you why you love live music!
