From the halcyon days of the so-called “Young Lions” of the eighties till now, there have been trumpeters heralded as “the next big thing” or “the second coming of…” Through all the hype, the New York-born, trumpeter, arranger, composer and bandleader David Weiss has been a light at the end of the jazz tunnel. Through his leadership of the masterful New Jazz Composers Octet and his own sextet, Weiss has shown his unfailing dedication to the illumination and expansion of the marvelous sixties – from Freddie Hubbard and Miles Davis to the Blue Note catalog and beyond. In a jazz climate that rewards neo-conservative tributes and exercises in deconstruction, Weiss has distinguished himself - finding flexibility and innovation in music that has it’s roots in the mainstream. Check this one out!" - Dave Gross Both traditional and trailblazing...Highly recommended. ***Blues Review Magazine*** Baum's playing has a deep funk to it, with a big influence of Jimmy Smith. And Baum also brings in all kinds of other things as well - dissonant jazz, alternative rock, R&B. He's not too far off from what John Medeski does with Medeski, Martin and Wood, but with more of a blues streak to it. ***Jim Trageser. Escondido, Calif. *** Call for more info! 845-236-7970 | ||
