Alt/Indie guitarist/singer to start or join group
I'm 35 and have been playing music for over 20 years. My musical experience includes years of professional playing as a bassist in a Top-40/Classic Rock band, as well as 2 years of college in a failed attempt to be a music teacher. I've been in numerous metal/prog bands playing both bass and 6/7/8-string guitars. I'm experienced with recording, producing, reviewing gear on YouTube, etc.
Nowadays, though, my tastes are more subtle. My main guitar is my Tele or beat-up strat and I just love some good overdrive, delay, and reverb. I'm not really into crazy tunings. I'm more into the ambient, droning, almost meditative indie stuff (think Jimmy Eat World's B-sides, John Mayer, etc.). I'm fine with letting songs grow organically; they don't need to be exactly 3:30 long with ABABCBA format. For instance, I've been exploring a small chord progression for the last six months in all it's positions and permutation. I'm in no hurry to crank out albums or recordings. I want to love the music we make. In fact, I've worked hard over the last year or two to try to forget scales, arpeggios, and theory and just trust my ears and heart. My last band burned me out; we released two full-length albums in a 13-month period. That's too much. I prefer quality over quantity.
I guess I'm looking for a laid-back group; nothing too serious, but people that are serious about their craft. I guess my ideal bandmates are in their 20s-50s with a sense of musical exploration and good gear. I'm looking for tone junkies and people looking to explore harmony, rhythm, and the tonal landscape. I'm cool if you just wanna plug straight into the amp or if you've got a $3k pedalboard with all the latest and greatest or boutique pedals. I can either play with a few pedals and a good tube amp or I can just bring my Helix, depending; I'm incredibly flexible, gear-wise.
I'm fine with either joining an established band who needs a rhythm guitarist/singer or starting a group. I have most evenings free. I am in the Army and am taking college classes, so those will always take priority, but I'm pretty good at managing my time and energy so if we establish a schedule, I should be able to adhere to it pretty consistently.

As you can see, it's not terribly mainstream, but it's also not totally indie/shoegaze/jamband. I enjoy songs that I can sing along to. I'm not a great singer, but I'm sure there are worse ones (allegedly). I enjoy lyrics about girls, spirituality, etc.; usually as long as it's got a pretty positive or thoughtful/insightful message, I'm game.
Influences/Inspirations: Hanson, Jimmy Eat World, Gavin DeGraw, Incubus, RHCP, Third Eye Blind, John Mayer, Owl City, Dream Theater, Spock's Beard, Tool, A Perfect Circle, lots of other 90's bands, Classic Rock, 80's pop, Blues, Oldies (Roy Orbison, etc.), meditation music (Loreena McKennitt, Enya, Deva Premal, etc.).
I’d like to keep it within a reasonable drive to/from Newburgh - Thanks I will answer all reply’s in a reasonable timeframe :)
