Reuben Wilson Combo, Bill Wurtzel, Ernie Colon, Ray BlueThe FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Reuben Wilson was one of few soul-jazz organists to emerge in the late '60s, and to be signed to Blue Note. During the late '70s, he recorded sporadically, eventually retiring from music in the early '80s, but had been rediscovered by a new generation. Like several of his peers, his late-'60s and '70s records, through sampling, became cornerstones in the newly emerging acid jazz and jazz-rap genres. Soon, his out of print records became collector's items, and his sampled licks were appearing on dance floors throughout England and NYC.

Special Guest: "Ray Blue has a majestic presence…when playing, his sense of purpose is obvious… It's one thing to be a good composer, it's another to be a great performer. Ray Blue's got the whole package." - Jean Szlamowicz/Jazz Hot/Down Beat

He was a member of the “Ray Charles Show” which toured in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy. Ray is a 2013 “Blues Hall of Fame” inductee, as a Master Blues and Jazz Artist.

Multi Award winning Bluesman John Hammond stands as one of the world’s premier acoustic blues artists.

He has performed with Jimi Hendrix (discovered while playing in John’s band), Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Duane Allman, Mike Bloomfield, JJ Cale, Tom Waits, The Band, John Lee Hooker, Dr. John and many more.

“John’s sound is so compelling, complete, symmetrical and soulful with just his voice, guitar and harmonica, it is at first impossible to imagine improving it… He’s a great force of nature. John sounds like a big train coming. He chops them all down.” – Tom Waits

“John Hammond is a master… He is a virtuoso. A Conjurer… A Modernist… John is in a very small circle of men with a guitar and a harmonica. Jimmy Reed, Howlin’ Wolf, Bob Dylan. The guitar is an orchestra. He’s sending messages. Storytelling. All mystery. Protection. The language goes out through the night… The Big Boom. Boom the room.”– T Bone Burnett

Moving to NYC, she hit the scene where she sang blues & jazz. The transition from Gospel to nightclub work came naturally, & Rene became the vocalist at Peg Leg Bates' Club for 20 years. In church it's called "shouting"-the Gospel dance. "They get up and shout & shout." In a club when Rene Bailey sings, and "it" hits, you yell, "Yes, indeed!

"Bright-On! Get out of your comfort zone and into a new groove with The Brighton Beat. Every song takes the listener to a new world, where the natives are happy. It's a Jazz evolution, not the same old Afro-Beat business. If The Brighton Beat doesn't sound like any other band you've heard, you're right." - Iconoclast Magazine

NYC / Boston's freshest Afrobeat-Jazz group, The Brighton Beat is a positive Afrobeat force, aimed at getting the crowd dancing and bootys shaking. Heavily influenced by Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, but in no way traditional, the group creates grooves reminiscent of Herbie Hancock, at times reaching the raw, unbridled expression found in the music of Miles Davis and Freddie Hubbard.

In addition to outstanding musicianship, the group adds another level of instrumentation to their Jazz-meets-Afrobeat style by way of unique vocalizations. The energy and enthusiasm this band brings to the stage unparalleled.

Sheila Jordan

http://www.sheilajordanjazz.com/

In 2012 Sheila was named by The National Endowment for the Arts, NEA Jazz Master, honoring her lifetime of extraordinary work...and her extraordinary life!

One of the most consistently creative jazz singers of all time, Jordan is a superb scat singer, and an emotional interpreter of ballads.

Her unique musical trademarks, such as frequent and unexpected sweeping changes of pitch, still tend to confound an uninitiated audience.

Cameron Brown

http://www.jazzhalo.be/musicians-files/cameron-brown/

Bassist, composer and educator, he began his career in the mid-60s recording in Europe with George Russell and Don Cherry. In the mid-seventies he recorded live in Montreux with Archie Sheep and made a DVD with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers in Orvieto.

Brown spent the entire eighties with George Adams, Don Pullen and Dannie Richmond; thereafter, 9 years with Dewey Redman and three with Joe Lovano and Idris Muhammad.

The Ballad of Three Finger Brown, the third full-length release from singer-songwriter Ray Lambiase, was released this past August. The CD features acoustic performances of eleven original songs. The title cut recounts the unlikely story of the Chicago Cubs baseball pitcher who led that team to their last World Series championship in 1908. The CD follows the release of Twenty Lies (and Other Stories) in 2014, and Time Leaves Things Behind the year before that. As a teenager, he traveled the college coffeehouse circuit, and was an early contributor to the Fast Folk music co-operative in Greenwich Village, before starting his first band and recording his first single. His early efforts led to local radio play and publishing contracts with Combine Music in Nashville, and with Special Rider Music, Bob Dylan’s publishing arm in New York City. He has opened for artists as varied as Dave Van Ronk, Marshall Crenshaw, Suzanne Vega, Dr. John and Roger McGuinn.
