An EP Release Party! - Special TUESDAY Performance
with Jessi Mason, celebrating "Hollow"
Singer-Songwriter, Acoustic
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
"Hollow" is the debut EP of singer/songwriter Jessi Mason, and it was a labor of love. We're proud and excited to celebrate with her!

Inspired by artists such as Joni Mitchell & Norah Jones, Jessi has created folk-influenced songs that convey compelling stories of "serendipitous adventures and hopeless romanticism". Jessi finds particular importance in lyrics and their ability to connect something as intimate as an emotion or idea to her audience. Her original songs are pure poetry, and her vocals and guitar work belie her age. At just 17, Jessi has a soul of a seasoned artist.

We fell in love with Jessi at a 12 Grapes Open Mic, and she's become part of our family. Jessi has performed at venues throughout Westchester, at Rockwell's with Lagond Songwriter Sessions, NYC's Bitter End and Peekskill's Summer Block Party series.

Jessi will be joined tonight by Anne Carpenter (backing vocals), Tyler Cottrell (cello) and other special guests.

Born and bred in New York's glowing Hudson Valley, Goodnight Brother can be heard echoing from seething basements and the upmost acoustically treated barns. This indie rock 'n' roll outfit has grown together musically and emotionally, settling into a sound like a well weathered baseball mitt.

Singer/songwriter Dante DeFelice serves as the frontman for Goodnight Brother, providing a voice that is not only poetically conscious, but charismatically entertaining. Percussionist Lee Falco lifts each tune with dynamic playing and shimmers of vocal harmony. Bassist Duncan Clark rounds out the low end with a foundation that completes the triangle.

"An assured vocalist with a galvanizing presence." THE NEW YORKER

“Champian is the most gifted pure jazz singer of her generation” Mark Stryker, Detroit Free Press

The charismatic New York vocalist and pianist is the talk of Manhattan and shines radiant through her talent and artistic maturity. In spite of her young age, Champian has the lived in voice that gives authority to all the classics and standards, and has played with such masters as Jimmy Cobb, Frank Wess, Lou Donaldson, Louis Hayes and Buster Williams.

Her recent album "Change Partners" presents some extracts of a concert recorded in May 2014 at the Yardbird Suite in Edmonton, Canada. Her crowd-pleasing, and award-nominated voice is supported by equally impressive piano chops, along with a killer backing band. This is the type of traditional vocal/piano jazz that never goes out of style.

Randy Newman's classic LP "Good Old Boys" was released forty years ago in 1974.Join us as we perform this landmark recording in it's entirety with Robbie Kondor, David Spinozza, Jeff Ganz, Frank Pagano and some VERY special guests.

New Jersey-based frontman, singer, & harmonica player Rob Paparozzi has been a blues performer since 1967, but he's far from being strictly a blues musician. In fact, he's at home playing a wide range of music. This versatility is reflected in the long and remarkably diverse list of major artists Rob has worked with, including B.B.King, Bruce Springsteen, and Whitney Houston, to name just a few.

Robbie Kondor/Piano (Randy Newman, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen)

David Spinozza/Guitar (Paul McCartney, Yoko, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Dr. John)

With a voice praised as “a deep contralto as smooth and dark as the richest espresso” (Jazz Times, November 2007,) award-winning jazz vocalist Alexis Cole has made an impressive impact on audiences ever since she first took the stage as a teenager. Winner of the 2007 Jazzmobile competition and an award recipient of the Montreux Jazz Vocal Competition, Alexis was cited as "a rising star in the jazz world” by Hot House Magazine.

With seven records so far, Alexis Cole is on her way to becoming the next great singer. Christopher Loudon of Jazz Times says “Cole’s easy sense of swing is strongly reminiscent of Sarah Vaughan”. Ernest Barteldes for AllAboutJazz writes “Cole’s voice is inspired”. While Scott Yanow states “Alexis Cole grows in power, maturity and depth each year. She continues to have unlimited potential.”

For those unfamiliar with the Hudson Valley Blues Scene, it can be surprising that the region has been home to such renowned blues talent as Bill Perry, Popa Chubby, Murali Coryell and Little Sammy Davis, Little Melvin Underwood . But it was under the tutelage of Bill Perry and Popa Chubby that Dan Brother began his guitar playing and singing career. Since his teens, Dan Brother has been performing in venerable local blues clubs like The Corner Stage, Waterwheel Café, Bodle’s Opera House, and The Downtown. Having shared the stage with mentors like his, it’s no wonder Dan picked up a little of everything along the way – from protest era psychedelia to straight-up blues; classic era soul to southern rock and Texas twang. Dan has turned all that early on-stage learning into a sound all his own, Dan’s high energy showmanship draws fans young and old. Dan has performed at one of the premier music venue in the hudson valley with Jimmy Vivino at Brian's Backyard BBQ in Middletown, N.Y

Karl Berger and band bring us into the mind of the unique "fusion" Cherry created in the 70s. The late American jazz trumpeter, Don Cherry was known for his long association with saxophonist Ornette Coleman, which began in the late 1950s. In the 1960s he became a pioneer of world fusion music. In the 1970s he relocated to Sweden, but continued to tour and play festivals throughout the world.

These performers have first-hand experience in performing with Don Cherry himself: Karl Berger came with Don from Paris in the 60s after several years of performances with DC in Europe. Peter Apfelbaum worked closely with DC for many years. He and Steven Bernstein met Don at the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock and worked with him and Peter's "Hieroglyphics Ensemble" in the Bay Area. Mark Helias was one of Don's favorite bassists.

A collaboration between veterans of the Philadelphia folk, trip-hop, bluegrass, R&B, and musical theater scenes, A Fistful of Sugar was convened in late 2010 to solve all the world's problems with pretty little tunes. So far, so good. Centered around strong, lush vocal harmonies and driving "new folk" instrumentals, the product is a distinctly modern sound that resonates with echoes of 1930s hot jazz, traditional 'old-timey' country, gypsy jazz, and other roots musics. With six vocalists and distinctly bluegrassy instrumentation, A Fistful of Sugar has wowed audiences across the Northeast with their powerful, genre-bending, energetic performances that range from the syrupy-sweet to the gritty and swampy. AFOS completed their self-titled demo in August 2012 and independently released their first full-length studio album, Perspicacity in January 2014. They were selected by the PFS jury to perform on the main stage at the 53rd Annual Philadelphia Folk Festival.
